Let’s make a TCM-friendly black sesame matcha latte! In Traditional Chinese Medicine, black sesame powder nourishes the liver and kidneys, especially the blood and the yin, which is the fluid. It’s amazing for hair growth, amazing for women’s health, and something that you can incorporate into your daily matcha latte! Not only that, matcha is an incredible anti-inflammatory tea, packed with polyphenols that can defend the skin from stressors. Enjoyed hot (versus iced), it’s even better for your qi, and a sprinkle of black sesame adds a sultry depth, nourishing your liver and kidneys while enriching your blood for that radiant glow!

Ingredient Notes

  • Frauth matcha powder: Using ceremonial-grade matcha ensures a smooth, non-bitter flavour and vibrant colour.
  • Ground black sesame powder: Nutty, rich, and packed with health benefits.
  • Almond milk: This is my personal preference, but any milk will do!
  • Hot water: Avoid using boiling water for matcha, as it can scorch the powder and result in bitterness.
  • Maple syrup or honey: Adds just the right touch of sweetness.
  • Sea salt: Can add more depth to the latte.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Sesame Almond Milk

Step 1: Warm 8 oz almond milk.

Step 2: Whisk in 1 tsp black sesame powder until blended.

Step 3: Add optional maple syrup or honey + a pinch of salt if using.

Step 4: Pour the sesame almond milk into your mug.

Matcha Latte

Step 1: Sift 1 ½ tsp Frauth matcha into a bowl.

Step 2: Add 2 oz hot water and whisk in a zigzag motion until frothy and smooth.

Step 3: Slowly pour in the whisked matcha.

Step 4: Top with a light dusting of powdered black sesame for a nutty finish.
