What Makes This Recipe Great

There’s not much that can mess with a traditional margarita. A classic alcoholic drink, margaritas are a delicious and refreshing cocktail. Typically made with fresh lime juice, Blanco tequila, triple sec or orange liqueur, and agave syrup, a classic margarita is a super popular drink around the world.

Today, however, I’m jazzing up this classic drink and putting a non-alcoholic spin on it. So if you’re a non-drinker, this fruity and fun Virgin Mango Passion Fruit Margarita Mocktail recipe is for you!

Made with fresh juices (lime and mango), non-alcoholic tequila, agave nectar, and passion fruit for a tropical, refreshing drink that I hope you love as much as I do! It’s perfect for hot summer days, fun date nights, for the pool or the beach, or just for fun!

This drink is the perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors. It tastes like the real thing, without any of the alcohol!

Ingredient Notes

Margarita Mocktail Ingredients

  • lime juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice and lime slices for garnish. Fresh citrus juice provides the best flavor, as opposed to bottled juices.
  • mango juice: Use your favorite. I prefer to find 100% juice varieties that don’t have added sugar.
  • Ritual tequila alternative: Ritual makes a non-alcoholic tequila that gives this drink the flavor of tequila without the effects!
  • agave nectar: I prefer agave to sweeten my margarita mocktail, but if you don’t have this, feel free to use simple syrup.
  • passionfruit: Passion fruit can most likely be found in grocery stores from August to November. However, depending on your location, you may be able to find them in the grocery store year-round.
  • ice cubes

Garnish

  • chamoy: This Mexican condiment is known for its sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors. It’s a sauce, so it works perfectly as a coating for the rim of your glass that you can then dip in coarse salt or tajin.
  • tajin: This seasoning blend is known for its unique combination of flavors, including chili, lime, and salt.
  • fresh, ripe mango spears

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the glasses. Use a large, flat plate and spread tajin evenly on the plate. Coat the rim of your glass in chamoy, then generously coat the rim with tajin. Pop the glasses into the freezer to chill until ready to serve.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, add a handful of ice along with lime juice, mango juice, non-alcoholic tequila (if using), and agave (if using). Shake vigorously for about a minute.
  3. To serve, cut the passionfruit in half and divide the flesh and seeds between the glasses. Add a generous amount of crushed ice to each glass, place a mango spear in each, and then strain and pour the shaken mixture into each prepared glass. Enjoy immediately.

Expert Tips

  • Salted Rim: This recipe has you dip your glass in chamoy and tajin, but you can also achieve a salt rim with a lime wedge and kosher salt or coarse salt (often sold as margarita salt). Choose your favorite method based on flavor preferences.
  • Tequila: The tequila alternative is completely optional. It does help give the drink classic margarita flavors. However, it’s still a delicious drink without it.
  • Cocktail: If you do want to turn this alcohol-free margarita into a boozy drink, feel free to add 3-4 ounces of your favorite Blanco tequila. This recipe makes 2 beautiful drinks 🙂
  • Club Soda: To add a sparkling element to this drink, feel free to top it off with club soda, seltzer water, tonic water, or your favorite bubbly water of choice.
