These homemade fudgesicles are the perfect summertime treat. Full of rich chocolate flavor, you’d never believe this frozen treat is healthy! Made with delicious, simple ingredients, and ready in just 10 minutes!
What Makes This Homemade Fudgesicles Recipe Great
Fudgesicles are such a nostalgic treat– creamy, fudgy ice cream in popsicle form! What could be better than that?! Today, we’re making a vegan, homemade version of these childhood treats with a secret ingredient you’d never even know was there: Avocado!
Ripe avocados have a super creamy texture that replaces the need for an abundance of milk, heavy cream, or another thickener in this recipe. Plus, the added cocoa powder and melted chocolate chips do a great job of masking any avocado-y flavor, so all you taste is a chocolate pudding-like vegan ice cream bar!
These avocado fudgesicles are so simple to make and come together in about 10 minutes (sans freezing time!). Simply blend ingredients and let the freezer do its thing. The resulting fudge pop is delicious, full of healthy fats, and completely vegan and gluten-free!
Eat these pops on a hot summer day, or a poolside gathering, or give them to the kids– they are truly healthy fudgesicles (and delicious)! This will be your favorite recipe for hot days in no time!
Ingredient Notes
This non-dairy fudgesicle recipe is also gluten-free, nut-free, grain-free, and refined sugar-free!
- Ripe avocados. This is the creamy base for our homemade fudgesicles. It’s a nut-free alternative that also adds a healthy source of fat to the recipe!
- Vegan chocolate chips. Any dairy-free chocolate will work, we’ll melt this down before blending to add chocolatey flavor and add to the texture of our avocado fudgesicles.
- Cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa powder. Extra chocolate flavour!
- Plant milk. You can use any plant milk you’d like, almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, canned full-fat coconut milk, etc. Opt for an unsweetened one as we will be sweetening it to taste with maple syrup, and the melted vegan chocolate does add sweetness as well.
- Maple syrup. To taste!
- Vanilla extract.
- Pinch of salt.
Step-by-Step Instructions
The steps are super easy, but the hardest part is waiting for them to freeze!
- Start by melting vegan chocolate chips using the Bain Marie method or microwaving.
- Add all of your ingredients to a high-powered blender or food processor, then add melted chocolate and blend until smooth again.
- Taste, and adjust to your liking, adding additional cacao powder or maple syrup as desired. Then pour your mixture into your popsicle molds and insert sticks.
- Freeze for 4-5 hours or overnight.
Expert Tips
- I highly recommend silicone molds, however, you can also use paper cups (or plastic cups) to make larger pops and insert a fork or chopstick into the cup in place of popsicle sticks. You can also use any other conventional molds (choose your favorite BPA-free brand) with a wooden stick or plastic sticks, depending on what you have on hand. You can also use an ice cube tray for bite-sized vegan fudgesicles.
- If you want to turn this into a scoopable ice cream, try a churner to maintain a softer texture.
- You can always add additional ingredients into your chocolate mixture if desired or make a second batch filled with fun mixins– banana, other fresh fruit, a little bit of peanut butter, or another nut butter, chocolate chunks, chopped nuts, and more! Chocolate peanut butter fudgesicles are definitely calling my name this summer.
Storage Tips
Store these fudgesicles in the freezer in an airtight container for up to a month! Let soften for a few minutes before enjoying. Sometimes after a couple weeks, ice crystals might form. Just lick them off or give them a quick rinse.
If you’re having trouble getting the pop out of the mold, run it under warm water for a few seconds to loosen it up.
