Learn how to Make a Nitro Matcha Latte at home with a nitro SI canister, your favorite milk, flavoring and sweetener. A fluffy, creamy and chilled latte for every morning!
It’s no secret that I love my hot, creamy matcha lattes in the morning. But when it’s hot outside and now that I’m living in LA, I’ve been more in the mood for a chilled AM drink. This nitro matcha latte is ultra-smooth and creamy, with an airy foam on top that I love. It’s easy to make with a few important pieces of equipment so you can enjoy cafe-quality matcha at home!
What You Need to Make a Nitro Matcha Latte
Before you get started, you’ll need a few pieces of equipment:
- An ISI canister. You can find these at kitchen supply stores and online. You’ll be able to use it for more than your nitro too. You can make fluffy vegetable purees, whipped coconut cream, and foams. Make sure your canister is compatible with N2 cartridges.
Once you have the right canister and a nitrogen cartridge, you’ll need three ingredients for the latte:
- Matcha. Use a high-quality ceremonial-grade powder. I love my matcha from Ippodo.
- Warm water. You don’t need much, just enough to hydrate the matcha powder.
- Milk. Use any non-dairy milk you like. Almond, oat, cashew and soy milk are all great choices.
How to Make Nitro Matcha Lattes
Here’s how to make your latte:
- Start by sifting the matcha through a fine-mesh sieve. This removes clumps and separates the particles.
- Whisk the matcha into the water to hydrate the powder. It’s best to do this in a matcha bowl with a bamboo whisk. See my tips in my Ultimate Matcha Guide.
- Next, pour the matcha into the canister, along with our milk. Be sure the matcha isn’t hot when you add it to the canister.
- Charge the canister with two N2 cartridges, then shake it for 10 to 15 seconds.
- Hold the canister straight upside down and release your matcha into a glass. Enjoy!
