Irresistible Matcha Dusted Chocolate Almonds!

I was inspired by the classic cocoa dusted almonds and decided that Matcha Dusted Chocolate Almonds had to happen! It was just a snack-speriment at first, but the result was a delicious, perfectly balanced sweet treat that I couldn’t stop eating.

Matcha Dusted Chocolate Almonds

This one is definitely for the matcha lovers, and those that enjoy a dessert that isn’t too sweet. The natural bitterness in the matcha plus the dark chocolate flavor really keep the sweetness toned down. And of course, the crunchy almond in the center is the cherry on top!

What I love about this recipe is that it’s really quite simple to make. You can make this with just three ingredients (plus a pinch of salt if you’re feeling fancy, and use either a microwave method or stove top depending on your preference. It can be a little bit time consuming but I find the process very meditative and the end result is well worth it.

These delightful Matcha Dusted Chocolate Almonds are vegan, gluten free, refined sugar free and can be made oil free.*

So what’s in these Matcha Dusted Chocolate Almonds?

  • Almonds → This is our base crunchy ingredient, but you can also experiment with pistachios, cashews, or any other nut/seed. I recommend using a larger nut though, because it’ll be less time consuming.
  • Dark chocolate → Be sure to use a dairy-free dark chocolate if that’s important to you. I really like to use Hu Kitchen chocolate gems, which have a really simple ingredient list. They also melt and set really well.
  • Ceremonial grade matcha powder → Check out my Ultimate Guide to Matcha if you’re new to matcha! Do be sure to use ceremonial grade matcha for best results here.

If you’re feeling it, you can also add a touch of flaked salt.

Secrets to success

When it comes to chocolate, I highly recommend using a chocolate bar versus DIY-ing with coconut oil/cacao powder etc. Reason being, you want your chocolate to stay firm at room temp, so melting down existing chocolate is the easiest way to go.

These can be a little messy to store, so I recommend stashing in a large, resealable airtight container and enjoying with care. Think cheeto dust fingers, except… very green!

3-Ingredient Matcha Dusted Chocolate Almonds (vegan, gluten free, refined sugar free)

Servings: 1 cup of almonds
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes
Total: 20 minutes
The perfect balance of Matcha, dark chocolate and nutty flavour--these Matcha Dusted Chocolate Almonds are vegan, gluten free and refined sugar free.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Begin by melting down your chocolate, using a microwave method or bain marie method. If microwaving, heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between and continuing until chocolate is melted down and smooth.
  • Prepare a baking tray lined with parchment paper, or a nonstick baking mat before coating your almonds.
  • Add your almonds into the melted chocolate and coat each almond completely. Using 2 forks, carefully lift an almond out, allowing excess to drip off, and place onto parchment paper or nonstick baking mat. Do space out almonds so they don't stick together. Repeat until all almonds are on the parchment paper.
  • Transfer to the fridge for about 30 minutes to chill and harden completely, then prepare to dust with matcha. I found the best way to do this is to use a powdered sugar duster or sifter and to sift over the parchment paper. Then, peel corners of the parchment paper towards the center to gently lift off the almonds and toss to coat completely. Alternatively, transfer into a bowl with a lid, and toss with matcha powder.
