The concept of a shampoo bar may sound strange at first, but it’s an incredible alternative to bottled shampoo with an impressive number of benefits too! Before we start, if you’re wondering what a shampoo bar is, it’s very similar to bar soap—basically a solid block form of shampoo. To use, simply lather up as you would a bar of soap, then shampoo your scalp and hair as you normally do.
I’m no hair expert but as you may know, I’m passionate about both nontoxic living, and minimizing waste and encouraging sustainability. Enter Spring & Vine shampoo bars, an earth-friendly and nontoxic shampoo alternative. They make clean, responsible haircare products with easy-to-understand ingredients and I’ve partnered with them today to introduce you to shampoo bars and share 5 reasons to try one!
The beautiful thing about shampoo bars is that they require much less packaging. Since they are solid, dry bars, they can safely sit out or be kept in a reusable container. No plastic bottles, pumps or lids necessary. When you finish using it, the entire bar disappears, so there’s nothing to throw away at the end of its life cycle.
Because shampoo bars are not liquid products, they’re perfectly travel friendly for frequent flyers. You don’t need to worry about having your shampoo potentially confiscated, and there’s zero risk of a shampoo bottle explosion or leak (that’s happened to me and it’s not a fun time…). For campers and long- term travelers, it’s also an easy way to keep your baggage light.
A shampoo bar can last upwards of 80 washes, which outlasts most liquid shampoo bottles. As a result, you end up saving a lot more money per purchase, and you won’t have to restock as frequently either.
Shampoo bars are much more concentrated compared to liquid shampoo, so for the same amount of shampoo, you’ll save a lot more shelf space in the bathroom. This is great news for minimalists too, and you’ll never have to deal with clunky bottles again.

Most shampoo bars are made with ingredients far more natural than conventional bottled shampoo. If you’re a Veggiekins Blog reader, you know I’m particular about ingredients in beauty and personal care products, and the same applies to haircare products.
In fact, the scalp is an extremely sensitive area of skin, covered in pores that absolutely absorb product. In other words, you should be just as mindful about what’s in your haircare products as you are with your skincare and makeup products. Look out for things like synthetic fragrances, parabens, SLS and preservatives. If you’re vegan, you also want to keep an eye out for beeswax. Spring & Vine shampoo bars are nontoxic, synthetic fragrance-free bars. They’re made with shea butter and essential oils, plus they are PETA certified vegan, and cruelty free!
If you’re curious to give shampoo bars a shot, take it from me (a human with a lot of long, thick hair) when I say they’re rad! Next time you run out of shampoo, consider a bar instead of another bottle.
